This Privacy Policy explains how the Hoʻākea website (“Hoʻākea,” “we,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit this site. It applies only to this website and not to any offline activity or to third-party sites that may be linked from here. Hoʻākea is a program of the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (HIDOE); this policy is specific to this site and works alongside HIDOE’s district-wide policies.
Browsing the public site. You can browse Hoʻākea without signing in or providing any personal information. Our hosting provider records standard technical logs (such as browser type, device/operating system, referring page, and the date and time of a request) for security and reliability. We also use cookieless, aggregate usage analytics (see “Cookies and analytics” below) that do not identify individual visitors.
Signed-in accounts. Staff and partner users sign in through our single sign-on provider (Keycloak). For those users we store the account’s name, email address, role, and the partner organization(s) they are associated with, so we can show the right records and control access.
Information you choose to submit. If you contact us or voluntarily submit information through a form, we use that information only to respond to and process your request.
Protecting student privacy is central to how this site is built. Hoʻākea does not store student personally identifiable information (PII) in this website. Program rosters and supporting documents are kept in separate, access-controlled document storage maintained by the program rather than in this website; the site stores only the links or identifiers needed to reach them. Survey information used to evaluate programs is collected in a non-identifying, aggregate form. Student education records generally are handled by HIDOE in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and applicable HIDOE policy.
For signed-in users, we use essential cookies to keep you securely logged in during your session. We use Vercel Web Analytics, which measures aggregate site usage without cookies and without collecting personal information or tracking you across other websites. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
We rely on trusted service providers to run this site, and share information with them only as needed to provide the service. These include Supabase (application database), Google (Drive document storage), Keycloak (sign-in), Make.com (workflow automation), SiteGround (email delivery), and Vercel (website hosting and analytics). We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information when required by law.
We take reasonable measures to protect information collected through this site. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please send only the information needed to process your request, and note that ordinary email is not a secure channel.
You can browse the public site without providing personal information, and most browsers let you block or remove cookies. If you have a question about the information associated with your account, contact us using the details below.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time by posting a new version on this page. Changes take effect on the date they are posted.
